Blues of the Blue Lines (new delhi)
Arushi , new delhi: Aug 12 2007

The heinous killer is on the Delhi roads! The deadly monster is primed to victimize yet another innocent soul! Till when will the massacre of the Blood Lines prevail???

The havocious nature of the blue lines has been making headlines from a long time, but now it has crossed all limits. Past statistics depict its rakish nature, 2005 - 120 deaths were reported, 2006 it reduced to 80 and in 2007 in just 6 months rates to 60 lives.

On the part of the authorities it has been proposed to remove the ‘Killer Blue Lines’, but what purpose will it serve??? By merely substituting the blue lines the deaths wont stop, as the drivers will be the same, there will be no change in their functioning, as well the ‘name sake’ traffic rules will also be the same. Delhi will yet again choke under the curse of another ‘’Killer Lines’ that may begin plying.

Moreover the traffic policemen, waking up from their shackles of slumber and haunting every nook and corner claim their efficiency. But then where were they when such accidents ruled the roads??? How was it then possible that the blue lines far exceeded the speed they ought to limit to? Causing such heavy damage to life as well property under their nose!

In an encounter with a traffic police officer, he comments on the affair, ‘we perform our duties effectively, issue chalans but are hands are tied in regard to the tampered speed meters. Now we plan to keep a vigil check on the roads. Whoever breaks the laws, his license will be punched and with 5 punches the license would be cancelled. Steps that should have been taken before are being taken now after such events. While issuing licenses training must be provided.’

Shayam Pandey, a regular commuter of the bus service blames the drivers and the system for the present scenario. He adds, ‘If more DTC buses are introduced then there is nothing better a solution.’

Menon, a non user of the bus services absolutely points on to the inefficiency of the Government. He says, ‘More than providing service the Blue lines are providing Disservice, they should not ply and I am very firm about it.’

In most such cases it is the driver’s action that the victim are to borne, Umesh a driver however defends the philosophy, ‘It is the fault of the passengers who hang on the buses. This is not the case with the DTC’s as Rs 100 fine is applicable, we are termed as culprits uselessly.’

Transport is to aid people, a boon for the people and not a bane which it has now transformed into. The service is too inefficient and now with the removal of the Blue Lines, it’s the people who will have to bear the consequences. Their existence as well as extinction has both proven a pain for the public. Where the victims either loose their lives or pay a heavy price for stepping on to the ‘Killer Blue Lines.’

With the traffic police blaming the drivers and the government, the drivers blaming the public, the public in turn blaming the drivers and the government, nobody is willing to admit their fault in this incessant vicious circle, then whose fault is it after all??

The Transport Minister Mr Haroon Yusuf, shared his comments on the issue, ‘we have to change the system. Short measures that we are taking includes- we have asked drivers to undergo a mandatory training; secondly we have set the speed for the buses, not to exceed 100. And thirdly we have ordered 2000 more DTC buses.’
Moreover on the menacing drivers he says, ‘drivers are wrong in defending themselves. After long hours of driving, they pass over the steering to the cleaners, who are not the license holders. We are making provisions that the ID card of the drivers must be displayed in the buses itself so that the people know who is driving the bus. We want people to come up and share their problems.’

Recently refresher courses are being introduced and the blue lines are being removed. But it would not serve any purpose if castles are built in air!!

Now the blue lines are back, stamped by the tag of the ‘Killer Blue Lines’, and one the first day itself it has restored back to its old means. There stands no doubt that people would think twice or even thrice before risking their lives! The killer now has to gain the trust of the public with its own efforts and service to regain its ‘lost glory.’

Life is precious, and if it is destined to get crushed under the roaring wheels of the Blue Lines then what good do they serve? If there is no one living to serve to! The Lifeline or rather the Killer Lines then need not live which do not let live! Not only passing but proper formulation of the laws is also required to put an end to the ‘Blues of the Blue Lines!!!’
